Depart after breakfast and continue to the Makgadikgadi Pans area for 2 nights at Planet Boabab. This unique and funky camp is situated just off the main Nata to Maun road, borders the extensive Makgadikgadi Pans system. The pans are the remnants of the once great Lake Makgadikgadi, at some 80 000 square kilometres in extent, and up to 30 metres deep, thousands of years ago, this was the largest inland sea in Africa.
In the wet season (November to March), this vast area of salt pans interspersed with low-lying grass islands is the destination of herds of migrating wildebeest and zebra, which are followed by predators.  Base yourself here and you can take guided walks and quad bike trips into the bush and the Pans with expert guides discovering the geological origins of this austere, but beautiful area. Follow the palm trail created by elephant droppings as these ancient creatures trekked across the arid waste when the super lake dried up; pick up, (and replace!), thousand year old spear heads left by the Stone Age hunters who were the region’s first inhabitants.

The Linyanti is situated in a far corner of Chobe, a secluded and swampy area in Botswana – making it a unique Botswana Safari destination. The Linyanti Swamp covers an area of almost 900 square meters, and fills the area between the converging courses of the Kwando and Linyanti rivers. Chobe’s boundaries only touch the river for a short section on the far eastern edge of the swamp.
The Linyanti Game Reserve lies in the far north western corner of the Chobe National Park, northeast of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Taking its name from the river of the same name, Linyanti is best known for the large numbers of elephant that roam the reserve. It has recently become one of the best places to see the African wild dog, driven virtually to the edge of extinction – roughly 5000 exist in the wild today. Safaris here promise the true Botswana experience

Vast and spacious, you will never see another vehicle on a game drive because our nearest neighbours are three hours away. This offers our guests a unique African experience off the beaten path. Nanzhila Plains Safari Camp is a new development located on the site of the old Nanzhila Rest Camp built in the late 1950's, in the remote and seldom visited southern sector of Kafue National Park. The area is best known for its lush woodlands of Miombo, Zambezi Teak and Mopane, the beautiful plains and the stream that runs through it, after which our lodge is named. Nanzhila Plains offers excellent opportunities to see the healthy populations of a number of antelope species including Roan and Sable, Reedbuck, Defassa Waterbuck, Oribi, Hartebeest and Eland as well as all the major carnivores, with a particularly strong population of Wild Dog and Cheetah. The birdlife is phenomenal throughout the year, and sightings can almost be guaranteed of the endemic Black-cheeked Lovebird, the Wattled Crane, Ground Hornbill and Saddle-billed Stork amongst other.

Full Board and Activities

Early morning depart from Nanzhila and continue to the lower Zambezi for 2 nights of fishing.
Shackletons surpasses any fishing lodge Zambia or indeed Africa can offer. Our standards exceed even those set internationally. Our owner-managed fishing lodge near Livingstone is small, sleeping 12 people, ensuring privacy and focused hospitality. Our 6 double, en suite chalets with private decks face onto spectacular views of the Zambezi River.
The sundowner's deck, lounge, dining area and riverside bar provide a space where our guests can unwind and relax after a successful day’s fishing, fly fishing or birding. Serene vistas are enjoyed from all corners of the lodge and, as the sun sets, the embers from the fire pit glow.
Wonderful meals are prepared, without any shortage for our hungry guests. We have our own vegetable garden, the bread is freshly baked and a braai (barbeque) at the end of the day sends you to bed with high expectations for the following day.
Our gardens’ flowers and trees attract a multitude of birds. Spend a day bird watching in the camp, or by the pool with a good book, and unwind from city stress at one of the most beautiful fishing lodges Zambia offers.
Accommodation: Schakletons Lodge
Breakfast

Full day fishing at Schakletons Lodge. Shackletons Upper Zambezi Lodge is the ideal venue for spin, lure and fly anglers of all levels to fish in a pristine habitat for Africa’s most spectacular and sought-after game fish. Shackletons is home to record and trophy Tigerfish, Tilapia, Bream, and Catfish.
Tigerfish, the so-called ‘striped water dog’, are one of strongest kilogram-for-kilogram fighters. They attack from the side at speeds of up to 50 kph, then turn their bait around and swallow it headfirst. Their ability to bite through a lure with their razor-sharp teeth makes them an extremely exciting fish to catch.
You can also enjoy the thrill of catching a 4kg Nembwe or a 3kg Pink Happy. The Lodge offers a wide variety of trophy-sized Tilapia and Bream species, including: Nembwe, Thinface and Humpback Largemouth Bream; Redbreast, Threespot and Greenhead Tilapia; and Pink and Green Bream.
If you enjoy a deep and strong fight, then you can target one of the Catfish species like the Sharptooth that weighs up to 20kg.
Shackletons runs fishing boats ranging in size from 12’ to 26’. Highly experienced river guides accompany you on your daily outings.
Shackletons offers different fishing methods (depending on guests’ requirements, fishing conditions, and the time of the year): fly fishing, spinning, trolling and drift baiting.
Shackletons provides rods and fishing tackle (except fly fishing tackle) suitable for fishing on the mighty upper Zambezi River. Guests are welcome to bring their own fishing tackle.
Shackletons promotes a catch-and-release policy to preserve the precious fish resources of the pristine upper Zambezi River. Shackletons does allow fish to be removed from the water to be weighed and photographed provided the fish are handled carefully.
